Park Guell
We started off early to get to Park Guell. We walked to plaza Catalunya and cought the Hop On and Hop Of bus. It took us about 30 minutes and many questions later to find the park. We had an 1130 time slot so we had time to walk around the garden and terraces outside the wall. They only let 400 in at a time so you have to wait for your time slot,
Park Guell was begun in 1900. Eusebi Guell asked Gaudi to help create an estate for well off families on a property that Guell had acquired called Montana Pelada, bald mountain The setting was ideal with views of the sea and the plains of Barcelona. Gaudi threw himself into the artistic creation of this garden estate. Gaudi's vivid imagination created terraces and brightly colored pavilions. The venture failed to attract investors and the park was turned over to the city in 1922. UNESCO declared it a cultural heritage site in 1984.
On the way home, we decided to go to the train station to get our tickets for Ribes de Freser our next destination. This is a 3 day weekend celebrating little Easter on Monday. We first tried to buy tickets by machine and found out we could't buy advanced tickets . We were told to go to another part of the station, to get a number, sit down and wait till our number was posted. Our number was 277 and they had just posted 187. Two hours later, the ticket sales woman said you can't buy tickets ahead of time with no explaination. You need patience to travel: I just used all mine up. Where is the Sangria?
